Why is my Bandwidth Important?

Although there are other meanings to the term bandwidth as related to ICT, the bandwidth that OST can supply a user is the maximum bit-rate (data rate) a link or connection can handle, usually given in bits per second. The higher the rate the larger the amount of data that can travel down the medium and hence the faster the operation can take place. For organizations that need to exchange large amounts of data regularly, need to communicate via Voice in their network or need to exchange video and audio data - a higher bandwidth is necessary if not imperative. The Kenyan "local loop" is not optimised to send digital data and can therefore not handle the larger bandwidth needed for some organizations.

Why does my installation need a Router?

In networks where several devices need to be connected using the same transmission channel, a router is essential in "routing" the traffic from the different devices to their intended destinations. The router also provides security to the data by acting as a Firewall - a term that is used to describe the tool by which computer users secure the data that leaves and enters their computers.

What is a Hotspot?

A HotSpot is a wireless LAN and provides high-speed Wi-Fi wireless Internet access in public locations.
This network is made for speed at every location. Using either a laptop or PDA that is Wi-Fi wirelessly-enabled, users can download their email attachments, watch a live webcast, or listen to streaming audio. Connect wirelessly, effortlessly to any enabling network with features-enhanced security and privacy between your computer and the access point. OST can extend this wireless internal network to a wireless Wide Area Network by providing the needed bandwidth.
With a hotspot, the user does not need to search for a phone jack, they connect easily, wirelessly, instantly and best of all no waiting in queue. OST's case site for a Hotspot is the Baraton University East Africa
